Majlis Apresiasi MyGenom
14 April 2026 | The National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) successfully convened the Majlis Apresiasi MyGenom, organised by the NIBM-MGVI team at Zenith Hotel, Putrajaya, to express appreciation and recognition for the invaluable contributions, support and unwavering commitment of all parties who collectively ensured the success of the MyGenom project.
The session commenced with an opening address by Prof. Madya Dr. Syahrilnizam Abdullah, Director of the Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (NIBM-MGVI), highlighting the success of MyGenom Phase 1 in sequencing more than 2,400 genomes from Malaysian individuals representing the nation’s diverse ethnicities. This milestone marks a significant step towards establishing a national reference genome and advanced genomic research infrastructure, paving the way for precision medicine and the advancement of Malaysia’s healthcare landscape.
Building on this achievement, the session continued with the Strategic Planning Meeting for the Implementation of the MyGenom Project Phase 2, which aims to achieve the target of sequencing 10,000 genomes by 2028. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of NIBM, YBhg. Prof. Datuk Wira Dr. Raha Abdul Rahim, FASc., and co-chaired by Datuk Dr. Nor Fariza Ngah, Deputy Director-General of Health (Research and Technical Support), Ministry of Health (MOH), reflecting a strong handshake mechanism in advancing the national genomics agenda through close inter-agency collaboration.
Looking ahead, the MyGenom Phase 2 is poised to further strengthen Malaysia’s position in the field of genomics by expanding genomic data, fostering strategic collaborations, and accelerating the integration of precision medicine into the healthcare system, ultimately delivering impactful benefits to all Malaysians.
