MYGENOM ON THE WORLD STAGE \ud83c\uddf2\ud83c\uddfe\ud83c\udf0d<\/strong><\/p>

The Human Genome Meeting 2026 (HGM2026), held from 21\u201324 April at the magnificent Zappeion Aigli in Athens, brought together over 300 delegates, including leading geneticists, clinicians, researchers, and policymakers from around the world.<\/p>

Malaysia is proud to be part of the conversation through the MyGenom project, led by the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The project was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syahrilnizam Abdullah, Director of Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (NIBM-MGVI) and Project Leader of MyGenom, alongside Ts. Yusuf Muhammad Noor, scientist of NIBM-MGVI.<\/p>

With 5,029 participants already recruited and 2,484 genomes sequenced to date, spanning Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous communities from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, Malaysia is ensuring that the rich genetic diversity of Southeast Asia is no longer missing from the global genomic map.<\/p>

MyGenom aims to sequence 10,000 healthy Malaysians by 2028, building a national reference genome that reflects our diverse population and supports the future of precision public health in Malaysia. This is about creating better, more accurate healthcare for Malaysians, based on our own data, for our own people.<\/p>

Our presence at HGM2026 marks a defining milestone: Malaysia is now firmly on the map of genome-capable nations, recognised by the global scientific community as a country that is not just following the future of genomics, but actively shaping it.<\/p>

From Malaysia to Athens, we are shaping the future of genomics.<\/p>
